SHORT BIOGRAPHY

André Greiner-Petter made his BSc and MSc in Mathematics at the TU Berlin in Germany. He has completed his Ph.D. at the University of Wuppertal in January 2022. During his Master’s thesis, he was a guest researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the US and made a research internship at Maplesoft in Canada. After he finished his Master’s thesis in Germany, he started his Ph.D. at the University of Konstanz and later moved with Prof. Bela Gipp to Wuppertal and now to the University of Göttingen. He received three scholarships from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) that allowed him to study at the National Institute of Informatics (NII) in Japan for the majority of his time as a Ph.D. student. He is further an alumnus of the Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF), a recipient of the EXIST Grant, and co-chair of the Wikimedia Community User Group Math. André is working at the NII as a post-doctorate researcher since January 2022.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

André’s research focuses on Mathematical Information Retrieval (MathIR) tasks. The goal is to retrieve semantic information from mathematical content and utilize this information for a variety of different applications, including performing computations & verifications, enhancing search engines, or improving plagiarism detection systems. MathIR requires advanced approaches in a large variety of diffirent research fields, foremost information retrieval, natural language processing, and semantic analysis. André’s primary research interest topics are:

  • Presentation to Computation Translations
  • Mathematical Information Retrieval
  • Semantic Document Analysis
  • Scientometrics
  • Data Science
